UK’s oldest lido delays reopening

-

BATH’S Cleveland Pools will not open today as planned following the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

The UK’s oldest lido was due to welcome back the public on September 17, with a lucky 100 swimmers winning entry to a preview dip this Saturday.

Over £9m has been spent restoring the Grade II-listed site over the last 15 months.

Cleveland Pools was built in 1815 and its restoration began over two hundred years later, in May 2021.

People entered a competition to be among the first 100 to test the waters in a preview session today. The pools were due to open officially next Saturday with a cold-water session, as the river-powered heat pumps will not be up and running until next spring, when the pontoon for boat passengers will be ready.

Both opening events have now been cancelled.
