11 die after boat sinks in Brazil

AT least 11 people died after an unlicensed passenger boat sank in a bay off the Atlantic in the northern Brazil state of Para, officials said. The state government said 63 people had been rescued from the water after the boat went down near Cotijuba island, near the city of Belem. Nine of the dead were women. Officials did not say if any people were missing. Authorities said the boat, the boat, which was travelling from Marajo island to Belem, was not licensed to operate as a passenger carrier.
