Bath named university of the year by guide

-

THE University of Bath has been named as the university of the year by a prestigious guide that is published this weekend.

It has been given the accolade by the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023.

It said that its improvements on nearly every measure earned it the title.

It was eighth in the overall rankings, which were topped by the University of Oxford for the first time since 2011.

Bath was recognised for scoring highly across a number of categories.

As the fourth-highest institution for student satisfaction and fifth-highest for graduate prospects, it comes as no surprise that Bath has received record numbers of applicants in the 2021 and 2022 admissions cycles.

Exeter was runner-up for university of the year, having nearly doubled its enrolments over the past decade, while Birmingham, Oxford and Surrey were also shortlisted.

Bristol was 15th in the league table, just behind Exeter in 13th.

Hartpury University in Gloucestershire, which was founded in 1948 as an agricultural institute, this year celebrates coming first in the South West for its quality of teaching.

A year after gaining university status in 2018, before which it was a part of the University of West England, Hartpury was rated gold by the Teaching Excellence Framework.

The new edition of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023, a free 96-page supplement, will be published tomorrow in The Sunday Times.

It claims to provide the definitive rankings for UK universities and the most comprehensive overview of higher education in Britain, including profiles on 135 universities.
