1988: At the Seoul Olympics, Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson crossed the line first in the men’s 100 metres final in a world record time of 9.79 seconds. That time was expunged from the records and the gold medal taken from him when drug tests proved he had taken performance-boosting anabolic steroids.
