Turn those draws into wins, urges Staunton

-

YEOVIL Town skipper Josh Staunton is confident that the Glovers can start to turn draws into wins – but admits his side need to become much more clinical, writes Keith Watson.

The Green & Whites have lost fewer National League games than any other side lower than ninth in the table, but languish in 19th spot themselves having drawn five and only won one of their nine matches so far this season.

Yeovil ought to have beaten top of the table Chesterfield last time out, but conceded an 87th-minute leveller to the Spireites after Staunton had put them into a 2-1 lead just seven minutes earlier.

The Somerset side are at home to fifth-placed Boreham Wood in the league this afternoon.

Staunton, pictured, said: “We want to turn those draws into wins. We’re creating some good chances and playing some really good, attacking football, so we need to start putting teams to the sword.

“The fans will always back us if we put in a proper Yeovil performance of guts, blood and determination, and play for the fans.”

Meanwhile, in the National League South, Bath City will hope to keep up their fine start to the season at Oxford City.

The Romans needed extra-time in their FA Cup replay to see off lowerleague Hartley Wintney, so fatigue could be an issue for Jerry Gill’s men this afternoon.

Oxford won 2-1 at Salisbury in the FA Cup last weekend, but have lost three league games in a row.

Elsewhere in the southern division,

Taunton have made a positive start to the campaign following their promotion from the Southern League and today host Chelmsford, who lie fourth in the table.

Chippenham sit level with Taunton in mid-table, but will be hopeful of taking three points this afternoon as third-from-bottom Dulwich Hamlet arrive having lost five league games in succession.

In the National League North, Hereford host Blyth Spartans with both sides having taken eight points from their eight games thus far.

Gloucester City, meanwhile, head to Chorley, where this time last season they were mauled 9-0 under previous boss Paul Groves.
