Norris heads League Against Cruel Sports
THE West of England’s metro mayor has a new job the chair of the board of trustees at the League Against Cruel Sports.
Dan Norris’s unpaid role will see him chair meetings of the trustees that oversee the national campaigning animal welfare charity.
Mr Norris, pictured, who was elected to be the Metro
Mayor for an area covering all of Bristol, South
Gloucestershire and Bath and
North East Somerset in May
2021, was co-opted onto the board of trustees of the
League in April this year, and within six months has now been voted in as chair.
The Labour politician has a long track record of campaigning against issues the League Against Cruel Sports have led on, most notably on hunting with dogs. As a Labour MP for what is now Jacob Rees Mogg’s North East Somerset constituency, he was a leading figure in the West Country in the campaign to get fox hunting banned in the early 2000s, and served as an environment minister.
Mr Norris said: “I am immensely proud to become Chair of the League Against Cruel Sports. Their work is hugely impressive and their impact has been significant. When I was an MP in the last Labour Government voting for the fox hunting ban was a key and heart-warming achievement.”
