Truss’s government heading for the rocks

FIFTY-FIVE years ago the Torrey Canyon ran aground off Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, triggering the worst oil spill in UK history.

Those terrible events in 1967 are mirrored by the events this week in the silly aisles of the Tory Party conference hall.

Never has the canyon between Tory policy and common sense been so wide, nor the inevitable shipwreck so potentially catastrophic.
