What a shame Putin won’t do a U-turn too
WHY are ‘U-turns’ so vilified by everybody? If you’ve made an error you should be man enough (or woman enough, for the PC brigade) to admit it and be admired for doing so instead of pigheadedly digging in and carrying on in the wrong direction.
I can understand Mr Kwarteng’s reason for lowering the top rate of income tax from 45% to 40% for the highest earners but do not necessarily agree with him.
It was done I presume to attract the top brains to work in this country and add to our efforts to improve our economy, in much the same way as reversing Mr Sunak’s corporation tax hike was done to encourage top organisations to relocate to this country, but would have created an even greater rift between the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’.
It’s such a shame that Mr Putin didn’t have the same bottle, unlike Mr Kwarteng, to do a U-turn on his aggression towards Ukraine. It would have saved the world a whole lot of heartache. As the old saying goes, ‘Act in haste – repent at leisure’.
