The only way forward is a General Election

-

DEAR Liz Truss and Conservative colleagues, I hear you’re pursuing a pro-growth agenda.

Some thoughts.

Weeks and weeks, no, months

“in recess” is not pro-growth. We have an average of between 22 and 28 days holiday per year and our work patterns meet the needs of the business; sometimes we work gruelling shifts to ensure 24/7 care for sick or injured people.

Party conferences held one after the other is not pro-growth. We hold our large conferences and meetings concurrently to maximise time, energy and productivity.

Constant, lengthy, often yearslong enquiries into various practices are not pro-growth. We deal with workplace conflicts and poor performance routinely so that we can learn and get on with the job.

Spending hours during the day enjoying fine dining lunches in restaurants subsidised by constituents is not pro-growth. We grab a sandwich at our keyboards or hastily eat the lunch we prepared that morning whilst juggling the kids/dog/other home drama, minimising time away from the demands of our work.

Flying around the world for photo ops is not pro-growth (and disastrous for the environment). We hold key meetings and large conferences with colleagues around the globe on Zoom, Teams, etc, saving time, money, the planet.

Crashing the money markets is not pro-growth.

I hear you came on to your big party conference stage to M People’s Moving on Up (without the artist’s permission). I’ll tell you what’s up... child poverty, food prices, food bank usage, fuel prices, energy prices, profits for energy companies, mortgages, queues for hospital admission, queues for GP appointments, queues for an NHS dentist, queues for childcare places, paperwork for businesses, queues at our borders... I could go on.

Even the most pro-Conservative voter, who has just seen thousands wiped off their pension, has had enough of your divisive, destructive, disastrous reign.

Let’s have a General Election – now – and truly get the country back on a pro-growth trajectory with new leadership and fresh hope for us all.
