Seats delay postpones cinema opening

-

THE opening of Bridgwater’s new multi-million-pound cinema has been postponed after delays in the delivery of its seats.

The seven-screen Scott Cinema in Northgate Yard was due to open for the first time on Monday.

But due to the delays, screenings will now not start until October 28, leaving many eager cinema goers disappointed.

Anyone who had already booked tickets will be contacted and either offered a refund or the chance to book another screening.

A spokesman for Scott Cinemas said: “It is with great regret but due to a delay in the delivery of seating that is out of our control, the opening of the brand new seven-screen Northgate Yard Cinema will be postponed for film screenings until Friday, October 28.

“We are very sorry to have to do this.

“For all customers who have booked in advance we will be in touch in the next 24 hours to arrange refunds or to move tickets.”

The former Scott Cinema at Penel Orlieu, which opened in 1936, closed at the end of September to make way for the new venue at Northgate Yard.

The new cinema has been built in partnership with Sedgemoor District Council and will be the first element of the £16 million regeneration project at the site, with a bowling alley and dining hub to open in subsequent months.

The scheme also includes a new, improved Brewery Field Park and children’s play area. The All Star Sports bowling alley and four restaurants will open early next year.
