Unlamented PM’s fate of own making

- Robert Readman Dorset

I WAS in the middle of watching Anne of the Thousand Days – the

1969 film, which starred Richard Burton and Genevieve Bujold, about Anne Boleyn, the ill-fated second wife of the monster Henry VIII, when a friend called to give me the news that Truss had (thankfully) gone.

But it left me pondering how long it will be before Netflix, Prime or Channel 4 announce that they have started production on “Liz of the 44 Days”! (Truss has the dubious distinction of being the shortestserving PM since the title was first used in 1885).

The difference between the two, of course, is that while Anne Boleyn’s fate was totally undeserved, that of our latest unlamented Prime Minister was entirely of her own making.
