There are better ways of saving the planet

-

I AM prompted to write, following an article I read this week, regarding the National Trust wildflower meadow project.

They failed to mention that to achieve this very ambitious project, they have turned out their tenant farmers all over the country.

New Barton Farm here at Wembury was the most productive farm in the district. Who is going to manage these meadows? You cannot maintain thousands of acres with a skeleton staff and volunteers.

Wembury, where the National Trust have been in control of the coast for over 50 years, residents have seen the cliff land and wild flower rich water meadows revert to scrub and blackthorn.

There is no value in simply planning to do good if you don’t actually do it. They are intending to plant thousands of acres with trees, taking valuable land out of agriculture, just when we need more homegrown food.

I would suggest saving air miles and transport diesel is a far better way of helping the planet.
