Croeso! BT confuses Somerset with Wales

-

CONTRACTORS seem to think there is an influx of people from Wales living in one Somerset village.

People living on Mendip Road, Yatton, were left confused – or should that be ‘drysu’ – after spotting a roadworks sign in Welsh.

The sign, which was also in English, warned residents that the footway was closed. It is understood the closure is in place while BT is working in the area.

Villager Peter Hoare took a photo of the sign, right, adding on his social media post: “Interesting – Mendip Road seems to have been magically transported to Wales.”

Some other residents joked that the move to use a Welsh language sign must be down to recent boundary changes, while others suggested it could be a costsaving move. Initially, it was thought the sign had been installed by the highways authority North Somerset Council.

A council spokesman said: “The signs belong to BT as part of work they are doing. We have asked them to remove them.”
