British have made up own minds on French

-

LIZ Truss may have been slightly undiplomatic in raising a thought as to whether the French are friend or foe.

But seemingly the general public have made up their own minds and, according to Brittany Ferries, are shunning France – visitor volume from the UK to France is down by 26%, whilst visits to Spain (also in the EU) are increasing – up by 9%.

Rather than putting a lazy blame

on Brexit, as though it is our fault, the company may find it more fruitful to lobby President Macron, ask him to wind his neck in and treat us as a friend across many policy areas.

Sadly, though, his electorate recently voted him back in for a second term – seemingly the English seen as a foe to the French populace runs deep, despite sacrifices made by the British and Allies for the benefit of us all in 1944-45.

We went to Italy for our 2022 holiday. We shall be looking to the wider world, also Portugal (EU) and Turkey in Europe, before we look for a welcome from France for any return visit.
