Arrest after boy, 14, hurt in hit and run

A WOMAN has been arrested after a boy was seriously hurt in a suspected hit and run outside a secondary school.

The 14-year-old was struck opposite the Nova Hreod Academy on Akers Way, Swindon, at about 8.20am yesterday.

The driver of the vehicle involved left the scene.

Police have now arrested a woman on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She is in custody and police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.

Wiltshire Police said the 14-year-old had been taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol where he is in a critical condition.

Earlier Chief Inspector Paul Saunders said: “This was a serious collision and the next of kin of the child involved have been informed and are being supported by officers at this incredibly difficult time.”

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision.
