We should have adopted WTO rules
WITH regards to Brexit implementation, I agree entirely with M Holly, basically the people voted for a ‘Common Market’, which with the connivance of bureaucrats and politicians was turned into what became the EU, something the majority of the voting public were clearly unhappy with, resulting in the results at the 2016 Brexit Referendum.
The politicians and bureaucrats of all political persuasions then spent years doing their very best to ignore the will of the people, both at Westminster with the help of some pretty dirty tricks by Speaker of the House, the now disgraced John Bercow, and others elsewhere.
Finally there came a General Election where people of all political persuasions came together to give the one political party that made the claim of getting Brexit done an 80-seat majority and so they were obliged to move it along a bit.
However, as everyone can see, the politicians and bureaucrats are still doing their level best to make it as unpalatable as they possibly can.
As I have mentioned previously, if in 2016 when the people voted to leave we had adopted WTO (World Trade Organisation) rules, whose stated purpose is “reduction of tariffs and other barriers to trade”, by now we would have been in a much better place. Don’t forget, in spite of what Europhiles would have you believe, this country has traded successfully all over the world, including Europe, for hundreds of years without their heavy hand.
