Footballer in horror injury out of hospital
FOOTBALL fans have cheered the news that Bath City striker Alex Fletcher has been discharged from hospital following his traumatic injury sustained during a game against Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park last month.
In a statement yesterday he said he is back at home with his fiancée and will continue his rehabilitation after undergoing brain surgery more than three weeks ago.
Fletcher had to be rushed to hospital after colliding with advertising boards attached to concrete during the game on November 8, which ended up being postponed as a result.
The statement, released on The Romans’ official club site, said: “I am over the moon to tell you that I have now been discharged from hospital and I am back at home with my fiancée Ellie to continue my rehabilitation following my brain surgery just over three weeks ago.
“Whilst I know that it may take some time to get back out on the pitch, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all once again for your incredible care, love and support.
“It would not have been possible for me to get to this stage without you all.”
In the middle of last month, Fletcher’s parents released a statement that said he was still in a “critical condition”, but that he was showing signs of improvement.
Fans donated more than £10,000 to help the Fletcher family through their ordeal with a Go Fund Me crowdfunder created.
Fletcher, who is from Newton Abbot in Devon and studied at Torquay Boys’ Grammar School, came through the Plymouth Argyle academy and had a spell at Tiverton Town before joining
Bath City in 2021.
