Time to turn possession into goals – Horseman

-

FOREST Green Rovers head coach David Horseman says “something has got to give” as his side continue to look for their first home win this season, writes Alfie Ryan.

It has been six months since Rovers last won a home game in the league, that being the 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in League One.

“Something has got to give this weekend, we hope it is in favour of us,” Horseman said ahead of the clash with Morecambe.

“We believe that we are probably a decent team in waiting, and it is just time to probably turn our possession into chances and goals.”

Rovers were unlucky to lose 4-3 to table-toppers Notts County seven days ago.

Horseman added: “What I thought we did do is show that against a top of the table team we can also really expose and hurt them.

“I think Troy (Deeney) said in his interview afterwards that we are getting really close now and I think that is the feeling around the training ground, but we have just got to convert and get over the line.”

On Morecambe, Horseman, right, said: “(Derek Adams) has done a brilliant job. From what I have seen of them their front three are big and strong, they are a handful.

“Eli King makes forward runs in the box. (Tom) Bloxham and the right-hand side full-back make lots of overlapping runs, lots of crosses in the box. They are a well-organised outfit with a couple of big strong handfuls up front.

“There are definitely ways we can score goals against them, but our biggest weakness has probably been defending crosses.”

While Forest Green come into their sixth home game without a point on their own patch, the away side go into their fourth road game without a point.

Horseman continued: “Overall, they average the lowest amount of possession home and away in the league, so I do not think home or away particularly matters for them.”

Swindon Town will be hopeful of maintaining their good start to the season when Grimsby pay a visit to the County Ground this afternoon.

Mike Flynn’s men are fifth in the League Two standings, four points behind leaders Notts County with a game in hand.

Grimsby, meanwhile, are off the pace down in 17th position.
