Hotel with stunning views goes on market
AHOTEL and restaurant that overlooks Portland and the stunning Chesil Beach has been put up for sale for nearly £4 million.
The Portland Heights Hotel is one of the island’s most popular and scenic hotels and offers a pitstop for many travellers, residents and tourists.
Christie & Co is advertising the 54-bed hotel for offers in excess of £3,750,000 after its owner of more than 30 years decided to sell.
The hotel sits within a site of about 2.25 acres and contains The View Cafe, ice cream parlour, bistro restaurant, an al fresco dining area and several function rooms available for private and corporate events.
The recent listing of the Portland Heights Hotel comes as developers failed to demolish the hotel and replace it with a new hotel and flats in 2016. Since then, the hotel has carried out some improvements, including The View Cafe, which opened in 2019.
There is still scope for further improvements, according to Christie & Co.
A spokesman said: “There is a significant opportunity to enlarge the accommodation facilities, with planning consent having been granted for the conversion of the former squash court block into 16 additional letting bedrooms.
“There is also a redundant basement that housed the former sauna and steam room, which could be repurposed.
“Our client has also investigated a number of green initiatives, including a mini wind farm and electric car charging, and has outlined contracts for the installation of these facilities which can be passed onto the new owners.
“Our client has owned the hotel for over 30 years but does not take an active role in the hotel business due to other full-time business commitments. The hotel is run by a full team of staff who handle all the day-to-day operations.”
