Flynn pens an extended Swindon deal

-

SWINDON Town boss Michael Flynn and his assistant Wayne Hatswell have signed contract extensions to run until the end of the 2025-26 season.

Flynn, 43, was appointed at the end of last season on a two-yeardeal and has made a good start to the League Two campaign.

“Today is about securing our future with the club and looking to build on the successful start we’ve made so far,” Flynn, below, said in a statement. “While we will always learn from disappointing moments, we are laser-focused to live in the moment and enjoy the challenges this journey brings”

Chairman Clem Morfuni said: “We are delighted to be able to continue our journey with Michael and Wayne.”

Meanwhile, David Horseman admits that he just cannot afford to risk playing certain members of his Forest Green Rovers squad in today’s FA Cup tie at Scarborough because next week’s League Two match away to fellow-strugglers Tranmere is more important.

The Green Devils head to the Yorkshire coast to take on a side from the National League North. Horseman said: “I think at the fans forum, I promised I would put out the strongest team possible, which is what we are going to do.

“Obviously we all love the FA Cup, but there are a couple (of players), and I will not name names, but there are a couple that just cannot play.

“I cannot afford to lose them for the Tranmere game, which there would be a high risk with not loads but just a couple, so that will not be risked as much as I am desperate to win the game, and then we have a squad for a reason that they need to step up and it is a big opportunity for some to stake a claim in the team.

“People will see it as a banana skin, which for any League Two side going away to a decent nonLeague team it is, but you have to start on the front foot and put your authority on the game with and against the ball.”

Elsewhere, new Cheltenham Town signing Tom Pett is keen to get his Robins career started – with AFC Wimbledon hosting the Gloucestershire side in their FA Cup tie this afternoon.

Pett trained with Cheltenham for the first time on Thursday and will go straight into the squad for today’s cup tie.

“It was good to get out there with the lads and kick on to the weekend now,” he said. “I am looking forward to the game.”
