Have a say on plans for town’s road changes

-

PEOPLE in Clevedon are being asked to have their say as North Somerset Council plans more changes to the roads in the town.

New bus lanes could be installed on three roundabouts on the town’s ring road under the plans.

The Tickenham Road roundabout at the end of the ring road, the large roundabout with Ettlingen Way, and the Southern Way roundabout would all be enlarged with improved pedestrian and cyclist crossings and pavements.

The work is intended to make buses faster and more reliable as part of the council’s Bus Service

Improvement Plan, which saw North Somerset Council receive £48m from the government to improve the area’s buses. The council warned the roundabouts were currently causing congestion for the 50,000 people a month who use buses along the route.

The plans will see the Tickenham Road roundabout enlarged and with new bus lanes added to the east and west side. New pavements would be installed nearer the roundabout, two new zebra crossings would be created, and the pedestrian crossing would be moved to a “safer location.”

The large Ettlingen Way roundabout will gain bus lanes on all sides. New bus lanes would be created on the northbound and eastbound approaches to the roundabout, while the carriageway on Moor Lane would be expanded for another bus lane to be added there. On Central Way, one of the existing lanes for cars would be turned into a bus lane. A zebra crossing could also be installed.

At the Southern Way roundabout, new bus lanes would be created on both approaches to the Tesco roundabout and the carriageway would be widened.
