‘I just want to see a hard-working performance’

-

MARK Cooper insists there is no substitute for hard work as he looks for his Yeovil Town side to overcome their recent wobble and get their National League South title bid back on track, writes Keith Watson.

The top-of-the-table Glovers are winless in three, including home defeats to Welling and Chippenham in the past week.

Fortunately for the Huish Park outfit, the chasing pack have not taken full advantage, and the Green & Whites remain nine points clear at the summit with a game in hand.

Ahead of this afternoon’s match at tenth-placed Slough, Cooper told reporters: “We have to react and put a team on the pitch that want to work and want to run. The one thing an opposition can’t stop you doing is running and I think we have maybe got away from that a bit.

“I have to make sure I put a team out that I know are going to run and sprint. You can play rubbish and win if you run about, you can’t do that if you don’t run about. I just want to see a hard-working performance.”

Elsewhere in the National League

South, seventh-placed Bath City are away to Chelmsford, in second.

Mid-table sides Chippenham and Weston are at home to Worthing and away to Welling respectively, while financially-stricken Taunton have won two matches in a row to escape the drop zone and now head to fellow-strugglers Eastbourne.

In the National League North, Hereford visit play-off chasing rivals Brackley, while Gloucester City head to Warrington needing to rapidly close an 11-point gap between themselves and safety as the drop to the Southern League looms.
