Points do not always come as expected – Cotterill

-

week (Walsall, Bradford, Sutton) ‘You are going to get six points out of nine’ there would have been me and along with every other person that is associated with Forest Green: the supporters, owner, chairman, vice chairman, whatever, we would have all taken six out of nine, 100 per cent.

“The thing is, the six out of nine does not always come how you would expect to come.

“What happened last weekend, everybody would have expected us to beat Sutton if you looked at that at the beginning of the week.

“They probably would have been expecting us to get beat at Bradford and they would have been hoping that we would have lost to Walsall.”

On today’s opponents, Doncaster, the New Lawn chief added: “They can do a little bit of both, to be fair. They can play off of the striker if they want to, and where they are on a good run of form, then they have added a little bit more football to it.

“I think that is probably what Grant (McCann, manager) has done and they will probably be looking more to next year now than they will be this year.”

Despite the loss last weekend, Cotterill, right, said of the mood of the group this week: “The worst thing about not getting the result on Saturday was we actually came back in on Monday morning and not being able to enjoy the week ahead because you are always looking back to that last result.

“But the good thing about it is we have an opportunity this week and we have got to make sure that we go and give our best in that game.”

Doncaster boss McCann played under Cotterill when the Forest Green boss was in charge of county rivals Cheltenham, and Cotterill said: “I’ve not really kept in touch in terms of phone calls backwards and forwards, but we have swapped a few messages and we have had a couple of conversations. Granty, when he came to me from West Ham, he had a great time.”
