Victory boosts Swindon but FGR are outplayed

-

SWINDON Town broke a four-match winless streak as they beat Notts County thanks to two pieces of comedic defending.

The visitors conceded after 19 minutes in calamitous circumstances as Scott Robertson tried to play the ball back to his goalkeeper Sam Slocombe, but it hit the post and rebounded for Aaron Drinan to net his third goal in four games.

Sean McGurk then drifted out to the right and picked out Paul Glatzel in space with a whipped cross, but his header rattled the crossbar and bounced over.

Then, in the 73rd minute, Slocombe came out of his goal and attempted to thread a pass into midfield, but instead played it to Glatzel who could not believe his luck as he put the ball into the empty net.

Substitute Alassana Jatta scored a stoppage-time consolation goal for Notts from an acute angle, but it proved too little too late as County’s slide down the table continued.

Before kick-off Swindon announced the signing of former AFC Bournemouth and Rangers midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh on a permanent deal, subject to EFL approval. The 24-year-old began his career with AFC Bournemouth and enjoyed a fruitful two-year spell with the club’s U18s, including captaining them in his second year and also being named the Cherries’ Young Player of the Season in 2017–18.

Forest Green Rovers’ bid to avoid relegation suffered a setback at the hands of visiting high-flyers Stockport County as the Nailsworth side were outplayed and beaten 3-0.

County stormed to a convincing victory at basement side Forest

Green, taking top spot in the process.

The visitors dominated throughout and broke the deadlock after 19 minutes when Callum Camps took the ball inside and found the top right-hand corner with a fine 25-yard shot.

They doubled their lead nine minutes later when the referee played an advantage allowing Ibou Touray to break down the left and whip in a low cross which Rico Richards turned home. Forest Green keeper

Vicente Reyes denied the Hatters further first-half goals with two point-blank saves.

After 33 minutes, visiting skipper Paddy Madden broke through only for his shot to be blocked by the keeper’s outstretched leg and Reyes denied Kyle Wootton moments later following a goalmouth scramble.

But it was 3-0 six minutes into the second half when Wootton got the better of his marker and squared to Connor Lemonheigh-Evans, whose shot was going wide until it hit Rovers defender Jamie Robson and flew into the net. In contrast, the home side failed to manage a shot on target all afternoon.

■ Yeovil Town took another step towards promotion from National League South with a 3-0 home win over Torquay United.

Bath City were denied victory by visitors Weymouth who levelled late on to secure a 1-1 draw. Westonsuper-Mare saw off visitors Taunton Town 4-0. Chippenham Town’s trip to Farnborough was postponed

In National League North, Hereford FC’s trip to Banbury United was postponed while Gloucester City drew 1-1 at home with Brackley Town in a lunchtime kick-off.
