Boss Cooper wants to ‘make Yeovil great again’

YEOVIL Town boss Mark Cooper says he wants to make the club “great again” after securing the National League South title and promotion back to the top tier of non-League football in England.

The Glovers made it mission accomplish­ed with three matches to spare by beating Truro City 2-0 in Gloucester on Thursday night.

Rhys Murphy and Alex Fisher hit goals early in each half to wrap up the all-important points.

“It’s a fantastic achievemen­t for the club,” said Cooper afterwards. “The owner (Martin Hellier) came in and gave us a chance to put this remarkable team together and get a bit of soul and heart back in the club and we have done that, the players have done that, and it is a brilliant night for the football club.

“We look forward to next season now. This should be a great football club and we want to try to build that and make it great again.”

Yeovil can celebrate their success at home to Dartford today.

Bath City remain in the hunt to join the Glovers back in the National

League next season, but must first secure their place in the play-offs.

The Romans host Torquay United this afternoon knowing they still need a couple of wins from their final three games to make sure of reaching the play-offs.

At the bottom, Taunton remain very much in relegation danger and today visit Farnboroug­h.

Mid-table sides Chippenham and Weston respective­ly visit Eastbourne and host Aveley.

In the National League North, Gloucester City are already down, and today play their penultimat­e game of the season away to play-offchasing Curzon Ashton.

Hereford head to Warrington with their play-off challenge now all but mathematic­ally over.
