Brown happy with Robins’ derby victory

-

SWINDON Town boss Phil Brown was delighted to be able to send his side’s 871 travelling fans home from Yeovil happy on Saturday.

Brown, whose suit was soaked by the pouring rain at full-time, witnessed his team see off the Glovers 3-0 with goals from Steven Alzate, Matt Taylor, and Elijah Adebayo.

Talking about the victory to the club website, Brown referred to the travelling fans who had stood in a predominantly uncovered away and said: “Horrific conditions but when you can give them something to go home and smile about, that’s our job.

“It’s back-to-back away victories based on clean sheets and I know it’s closer than Morecambe but you’ve said close to 900. It doesn’t matter if there’s one person there, he would’ve got entertained today.”

Despite the win, Brown, pictured, warned there was still much work for his side to do.

He said: “We’re not getting ahead of ourselves at all – we’re moving in the right direction some weeks and there’s only been a couple of occasions in eight or nine games that we weren’t at the races.

“We got our comeuppance in both of those games so there’s a lesson there for everybody – if we’re bang at it, we can be a match for anybody. If we’re not, we take our foot off the gas, then you get your comeuppance in any division.”

Brown also revealed that he felt there had been a reaction at the club after last weekend’s defeat to Bury.

“Thursday, when we made reference to the team and trained, the team was buzzing and they were bang at it again,” he said. “Everybody wanted to play – the XI that started today knew that and recognised that, and instead of cracking under the pressure they stood up. Some of the performances have been really good but like I said, we’re not getting carried away. If we can get the same performance next week, I’m sure we’ll cause Oldham problems but Oldham are a decent side.”

Asked about any free agents arriving, Brown replied: “There’s still one or two coming out of the woodwork, but we’re not really interested. We’ll piece together for the January transfer window – once you get out of the summer transfer window and you’re six weeks into the season, the free agents are de-trained, two months without football .”
