Glovers’ West Ham win delights boss Way

YEOVIL Town boss Darren Way has admitted that he was extremely impressed with the number of positives he took away from his side’s 4-0 victory over West Ham Under 21s in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday evening.

All the goals came from the back as Shaun Donnellan, Enes Mahmutovic, Tom James and an own goal from Tunji Akinola sealed the 4-0 win for the Glovers.

Making six changes to the side that had lost 2-1 to Morecambe on Saturday Way said he was delighted with the positives he has been able to take from the Hammers game, particu- larly the debut of academy product Daniel Ojo.

Speaking to the club’s website iFollow Glovers yesterday, he said: “There were so many positives to take from that I don’t really know where to start, Tom James’ free-kick and Ojo at 17 years of age.

“Ojo’s been training with us on a regular basis and he’s had to mark Jordan Green from pre-season so he made it look like it was easy.”

Fast becoming a set piece specialist, Tom James netted his third freekick of the season, beating the young Hammers keeper with an emphatic strike.

Impressed with the technique employed by James, Town’s boss said he was left stunned by the Welshman’s goal.

“He’s practised since he’s been at Cardiff, you know what it’s like for rugby back at Cardiff, and he’s almost used that same technique the way he places the ball with the valve but I’ve not seen anything like that at this football club.

“Overall I have to be pleased, 4-0 at home to West Ham, again with a few injuries that we’ve got coming back on Saturday I’m really pleased with that.

“I have to make sure the players remain positive and make sure we manage this game well on Saturday.

“We all know what the FA Cup is like for us as a football club - we are known for being giant killers but it could be the other way round on Saturday.”
