Alert after man approaches pupil

-

A SCHOOL in Somerset has warned pupils to be “vigilant” after a pupil was approached by a man in a car.

Heathfield Community School, in School Road, Taunton, is a secondary which teaches children between the ages of 11 to 18.

According to a school spokesman, a boy was on his way to school yesterday morning when he was approached by a man in a car.

The pupil did not enter the vehicle and left the scene.

The school took to its Facebook page to warn parents and pupils to watch out for any suspicious behaviour.

The post reads: “We have been made aware that one of our students was approached by a man in a car near the Swing Bridge, near the canal/houses near Aldi, on the way to school this morning.

“Sensibly, the boy did not go with the man. The police are aware of this safeguarding incident and are investigating.

“Students, please be vigilant on your way to and from school.

“Be aware of safeguarding procedures, like staying in groups, staying on public roads (not shortcuts) and seeking support from a trusted adult if you need it.

“Do not get into any unknown vehicles, and contact the police immediately if you encounter anything suspicious.

“Parents, we will be passing this message on to students today, please reiterate it at home.”

The incident follows a report of a man’s “unusual behaviour” near the school earlier in November.
