Police to act over youth with knife outside school
POLICE are investigating after a youth was caught on film outside a secondary school brandishing a huge knife.
The boy, who looks to be in his teens in the online film, was seen laughing with a group of other youngsters and posing for selfies as he clutched the blade.
The incident took place last Friday outside Downend School in Bristol and was reported to Avon and Somerset police by a member of the public the following morning.
Police believe they have identified the individual involved and say they will be taking “positive action” once their inquiries are completed.
Castle School Education Trust, which runs Downend School, has stressed that the boy involved had “no connection” to the school.
Councillor Jon Hunt, South Gloucestershire Council’s cabinet member for children and young people, said: “I’m deeply concerned to hear of this incident. South Gloucestershire Council officers have contacted the school to offer support and understand the school responded quickly to ensure student safety. I would suggest it is now a police matter, therefore feel it is not appropriate to comment any further at this stage.”
A spokesman for Castle School Education Trust said: “Staff on duty dealt immediately with an incident at the end of school on Friday.
“The individual concerned has no connection with Downend School. The police were informed immediately and the matter is now in their hands.”
