JAMIE AND JIMMY RUSTLE UP A SPICY DISH FOR THE TIMELORD IN FIRST OF A NEW SERIES

-

JAMIE Oliver and pal Jimmy Doherty are back with more buddy banter and end of the pier humour with the sixth series of their ‘Saffend’ foodie show.

Beginning as ‘just another cookery programme’ a few years ago, this has gathered pace and now pulls in some top notch guests. Confirmed for this run is the pretty impressive line-up of: Sir Patrick Stewart, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Jodie Whittaker, Martin Freeman, Jessica Chastain, Harry Hill, Danny DeVito, Romesh Ranganathan, Stephen Fry, Russell Howard, Davina McCall and Stephen Mangan.

The Southend pier cafe seems to be second only to Graham’s red couch as the place to chat (or promote your latest work).

“Let’s get that caff open,” says Jamie, with usual over-the-top levels of enthusiasm.

But there’s plenty to enjoy here, with Doctor Who’s Jodie Whittaker dropping in first for a cookery lesson.

There are plenty of TARDIS jokes in the small cafe as she helps the boys rustle up a roast pork, complete with a double helping of crispy crackling, and an authentic Thai beef Massaman curry that Jodie’s been dreaming about since she was 18.

Watch out for Jamie’s face as Jodie reveals the secret ingredient to the spag bol her mum made her growing up. And the actress also talks about playing one of TV’s biggest roles.

Meanwhile, Jamie and Jimmy are also back on the road. This time they’re campaigning to keep sustainable British brown crabs on the menu. And Jimmy uses his unheralded DIY skills to create a makeshift barbecue out of an old oil drum for the Harlequins ladies rugby squad.
