Missing sailor is safe and well

-

A TOP British sailor who has sailed round the world solo three times but was feared missing at sea has been found safe and well.

Robin Davie, 67, sparked a search and rescue operation when he was late back to Britain after setting off from France on Saturday, January 5.

He is described as an experienced sailor who has successfully circumnavigated the globe three times.

Robin’s brother, Rick, expected him back no later than Tuesday but reported him as overdue and an all ships alert issued.

Robin was sailing back to his home port of Falmouth, Cornwall, in his yacht - a Rustler 36 named C’est La Vie.

But he has now been found.

Dai Jones, Controller for HM Coastguard said: “The skipper of the yacht ‘C’est la Vie’ has just reported that he has heard the broadcast action being made by HM Coastguard and that he is safe and well 25 miles south west of the Isles of Scilly.

“The sailor had been reported as overdue by his shore contact and the French and British Coastguard had been trying to reach him since.

“Due to the weather conditions, he had to tack further to the west and it had therefore taken much longer than he had hoped to reach the Scillies.”
