PM’s school plan met with pure bafflement

- Shaun Shute, Gloucester

PLANS by Boris Johnson to ensure all pupils return to school as soon as June 1 have been met with bafflement by doctors, nurses, newspapers, MPs, business leaders, parents and teachers.

Johnson has got himself into a right mess over his sudden announcement.

It seems that every communiqué coming out of Downing Street is more ambivalent than the one before.

Johnson does not do clarity. Whenever Johnson comes under pressure his entourage always attempt to divert the debate away from him.

This time it came in the guise of a disgraceful attack on teachers.

When the public were crying out for a plan in black and white, Johnson brought only grey areas.

When clarity was needed, Johnson brought only confusion.

When unity was needed, Johnson brought division.
