No, we will NOT have another referendum

- Paul Mercer Tavistock, Devon

JUST when the country needs it least, up comes Mr Frampton trying to revive the delay/stop ‘Brexit’ theme by suggesting a delay in the ‘transition’ period, and then, in his own words, take the Brexit chalice down and ask the people again ‘do you wish to drink from it?’ – in other words, have a second referendum.

It has been estimated that the cost, if the ‘transition period’ is delayed up to a year the UK, will be in the region of 15 billion – this is on top of the 39 billion we are also due to pay; that’s 15 billion to top up an ailing EU and many of its members who pay little or nothing into the EU budget; it’s money better spent here in the UK. Mr Frampton, like many ‘Remainers,’ likes to play with figures, and claims in his article that ‘Brexit’ was ‘an act to leave the EU decided by a doubtful plebiscite which has consistently failed to be reasserted by the voters of Britain.’ How so, Mr Frampton, are you now claiming the vote was incorrect or is it because you lost the vote?

He intimates that only 43% voted for the Conservatives and therefore ‘Brexit’ in the last election, (actually it is the highest percentage of vote for any Party since 1979) and the other 57% all voted to remain, really Mr Frampton, how can you justify let alone prove such a statement?

With a considerable number of parties other than the major ones vying for votes, are you seriously trying to tell us that every Conservative voted for ‘Brexit’ and everyone else voted for ‘Remain’? The turnout for the 2019 election was just over 67%, surely you are not going to tell us that the other

33% who did not bother to vote were ‘Remainers’ as well? Finally, Mr Frampton, you appear to claim that those who voted to Leave are ‘chasing ephemeral dreams of some past glory’, really you and your fellow ‘Remainers’ should start asking yourselves whether this continual griping about the referendum and its result is in fact doing exactly that.
