Man arrested after his sit-down demo halted traffic for 45 minutes

-

A MAN has been arrested after he sat in the middle of a road in Sherborne claiming he is “terrified his children will starve” due to the climate.

Michael Fox sat in Half Moon Street in the Dorset town and blocked traffic for around 45 minutes before he was arrested at the scene.

Mr Fox, 58, a community organiser from Crewkerne, says he sat in the road because he wants the government to do more to tackle global warming as he claims “the planet is literally on fire” and there is “weird weather all the time”.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said that a man in his 50s arrested in Sherborne was released without charge.

While sitting in the road in Sherborne, Michael Fox wore a placard around his neck which read: “I’m terrified my children will starve because of the climate crisis”.

Mr Fox said: “We have known for more than 30 years that humans are changing the climate, but our governments have fiddled around the edges rather than taking the radical action that was needed. ”

The protest was part of a national movement organised by political activists Extinction Rebellion in which hundreds of individuals sat down and blocked roads in their local towns.
