Tame lamb is crowned show champ
AN “outstanding” tame lamb was judged supreme champion out of nearly 100 entries at the Devon Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (YFC) second online show and sale.
Considered one of the highlights of the organisation’s calendar, the ever-popular event gives the next generation an opportunity to showcase their livestock and compete alongside fellow members from across the county.
Traditionally held at Exeter Livestock Centre, but unable to go ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions, judging was once again moved online.
Matt Darke, county chairman of Devon YFC, said: “It was such a shame that we weren’t back at Exeter Market for this year’s show and sale, which is always such a prestigious event for us. However, it was amazing to see young farmers across the county get behind our online alternative yet again.”
Members took part by photographing their livestock in show condition. Across six classes, including beef, dairy, sheep and pigs, 97 entries were whittled down to just one supreme champion.
It was Lydia Hopper, from Withleigh YFC, who was awarded this coveted title for her Charollais tame lamb.
