Low water pressure stopping people showering

-

PEOPLE in a village near Gloucester cannot shower at certain times of the day due to low water pressure in their homes.

Residents at Orchard Park in Twigworth have been affected by the issue for more than a year.

They fear the situation will get worse with the construction of hundreds of homes which are planned for the nearby area.

Resident Rick Morris said it has been really bad in the past and he has recorded levels as low as 0.5 bar.

He says at peak times residents cannot shower or bathe because the pressure is too low.

“We’ve had so much development around Twigworth, it’s ridiculous,” he said.

“Between me and another resident in the park, we’ve been recording water pressure into our mains.

“In my particular case, it’s in the bathtub and I’ve seen the water pressure be as low as half a bar which is below the legal requirement for firefighting, which is supposed to be two bar.

“It seems to be when a contractor draws water at the same time every morning.

“We were calling Severn Trent almost every day over the winter.

“We do know there’s so much development.

“There’s 1,500 [homes] in Twigworth and another 160 they want to put on Brook Lane and another 74 at the corner of Hatherley Lane.”

He said Severn Trent have been proactive in trying to deal with the problem.

But he wants assurances that the local water infrastructure can cope with the extra housing estates which are planned to be built in the area.

A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We are sorry to hear people are experiencing an issue with their water pressure in Twigworth.

“We are working with the housing developer to understand the issue and find a solution.”
