Get creative and design your own jubilee jump

-

WEST horse lovers with an artistic flair are being invited to put their creative stamp on one of the region’s biggest equine events.

Nunney International Horse Trials is celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by offering equestrians the opportunity to design a fence for its upcoming three-day competition.

Set to take place from June 17 to 19, the Somerset fixture regularly attracts some of the top names from the world of eventing with Zara Phillips, Harry Meade, Sam Griffiths, Kristina Cook and Izzy Taylor having previously competed at Southfield House near Frome.

Course designer Adrian Ditcham said anything goes for the fence which will be incorporated into the cross country courses. “It’s a wonderful way to celebrate such an important milestone, and we’re looking forward to seeing the entries,” he commented.

“Crowns, carriages, palaces, thrones, anything goes. We want people to use their imaginations and if it’s original and different we’ll build it.

“We held a similar competition at Nunney in 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and we had some fantastic entries.”

The prize for the winning design is free entry to Nunney on all three days, lunch for two in the sponsors marquee on either Saturday or Sunday and a guided course tour.

Nunney’s organiser, Bridget Parker,

added: “This is a lovely way for Nunney to join in these unique celebrations.”

There will be a range of trade stands and food outlets. Entry to the event is free on Friday and £12 per car on Saturday and Sunday and well behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

■ Competition entries close on Wednesday, May 18 and should be emailed to nunneyhorsetrials@ gmail.com.
