New name for agency marks FGR triumph

-

A DIGITAL marketing agency has changed its name following the promotion of Forest Green Rovers to League One.

The London-based company has rebranded from Go Up to Going Up in recognition of the Gloucestershire side’s achievement, it said.

Forest Green Rovers secured their historic promotion following a nilnil draw with Bristol Rovers.

It comes just five years after the team entered the English Football League, and the draw takes them higher in the English football pyramid than they’ve ever been in their 133-year history.

The team has since secured the league title.

The carbon neutral football side agreed a “green partnership” with Going Up last year, which saw the Shoreditch-based agency become the club’s official training ground partner.

Forest Green Rovers are widely recognised as the world’s greenest football club thanks to the numerous changes made by chairman Dale Vince.

These include introducing the first organic football pitch at their New Lawn Stadium, creating football shirts made from recycled plastic and ground coffee, and a commitment to veganism within the club.

Going Up, which also benefits from hospitality and advertising as part of the commercial rights package, said it was planning to sponsor the club’s training kit next season, too.

The 12-month Going Up and Forest Green partnership starts on July 30.

Going Up’s co-founder Tom Skinner said: “To see an organisation that is so driven by its values and a sincere commitment to protecting the planet is, in itself, something to celebrate. To see that organisation winning, and leaving the competition in its wake, makes this feel very special. Us changing the name of our agency to celebrate their success felt like the least we could do.”

In January, Green energy company Ecotricity submitted fresh plans to build a new stadium for Forest

Green Rovers. The proposals include a 5,000-capacity wooden stadium for the club, which previously gained outline planning permission in December 2019, and a new training facility.

Subject to planning approval, Ecotricity said it hoped to begin work on initial training facilities this spring.
