Departing Bath quintet are thanked

-

BATH Rugby have confirmed the departure of five fringe players in addition to the big names already announced, writes John Evely.

Loosehead prop Will Vaughan, former Wales international wing Tom Prydie, Tonga tighthead Ma’afu Fia, one-cap England international Joe Simpson, below, and lock Harry Casson will all leave when their contracts expire.

Four of the five players joined on short-term deals this season, with free agent Prydie, 30, picked up during an injury crisis in the autumn, while Fia arrived on loan from Ospreys, scrum-half Simpson joined on loan from Gloucester, and Casson arrived in March from Championship side Ealing.

The quartet join wide men Anthony Watson and Semesa Rokoduguni, Wales number eight Taulupe Faletau, fly-halves Danny Cipriani and Tian Schoeman, centre Max Clark, scrum-half Ollie Fox, loosehead prop Valeriy Morozov and hooker Jacques du Toit in departing the Rec.

Head coach Neal Hatley said: “We really appreciate the efforts of Simmo, Tom, Harry and Ma’afu since they arrived at the club.

“Simmo and Tom have been consummate professionals and have really helped develop some of our younger players. Ma’afu has been excellent up front and added value to our tighthead options, and Harry has earned a debut in the Premiership while providing great energy in training.

“We would like to wish the four of them all the best ahead of their next opportunity.”

Meanwhile, front row Vaughan came through the academy at the club after joining as a 13-year-old.

The 24-year-old was promoted to the senior squad in January 2019, appearing in the Gallagher Premiership, Premiership Rugby Cup and Europe.

In total, he made 15 senior appearances in the Blue, Black and White, and has also spent time on loan at Doncaster Knights and Jersey Reds.

Vaughan said: “I’ve made some of the best friendships and memories since being involved with Bath from the age 13. I’d like to say thank you to my family for all the support they’ve given me at Bath, but it’s the right time to move on from the club.”

Hatley added: “Vaughany is a great character and he has been brilliant to have around the squad. We wish him the best of luck in his next adventure.”
