Gloucester sign former Wasps prop McArthur
GLOUCESTER Rugby have confirmed the signing of England U20s international loosehead prop Archie McArthur, writes John Evely.
McArthur was on the lengthy free agents list having been made redundant by Wasps earlier this season when the club went into administration.
Like with the trio of Worcester Warriors players also picked up by the Cherry and Whites following their fall into administration, Gloucester head coach George Skivington has added McArthur to his squad looking at the long term picture as well as the immediate with Argentinian international loosehead
Mayco Vivas yet to arrive from his homeland despite having signed for the Premiership club more than a month ago.
Vivas suffered an injury during Argentina’s Rugby Championship campaign and is recovering at home before heading to England.
McArthur, right, joined Wasps academy through their partnership with City of Oxford College, where he studied.
He represented England at U18 level before progressing to the U20s in February, making his debut from the bench against Wales in Doncaster. Also in the England U20 squad that day were Gloucester Rugby’s
Matty Jones and new arrival, Finn Theobald-Thomas who was picked up from Worcester last month.
McArthur was set to pull on the Cherry & White jersey for the first time last night, for Gloucester United against the UK Armed Forces at Kingsholm.
Gloucester Rugby’s director of academy and development, Carl Hogg, said: “Archie is a very talented young player and we are really happy he’s signed for Gloucester Rugby.
“During his time at Wasps and with England, he has shown a lot of potential and we’re looking forward to see him take the next steps of his career here at Kingsholm.”
