Over £8,000 raised to help footballer’s family
A FUNDRAISER has been set up to support the family of Alex Fletcher after the Bath City striker suffered a serious head injury during a match last week.
The GoFundMe page had raised £8,338 through 397 separate donations by yesterday evening.
The match between City and Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday was calledoff in the fifth minute after Fletcher collided with an advertising hoarding at Twerton Park.
He was taken to hospital to undergo neurosurgery and remains in intensive care.
Messages of support have flooded in from the football community for the 23-year-old who is said to be in a stable but critical condition.
Bath City have confirmed the postponement of several upcoming fixtures in light of the injury.
The GoFundMe page says: “During Bath City Football Club’s match with Dulwich Hamlet on Tuesday November 8, Alex Fletcher sustained a severe head injury.
“He required emergency neurosurgery to stabilise his condition and was then admitted to intensive care, where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
“Everyone is deeply saddened by what happened and this fundraiser is to provide his family and loved ones with support at a time when they may have to take time off from work, or may incur personal costs.
“The whole of the Bath City family, and the footballing world beyond, are behind Alex and are sending their unconditional love, strength and support to both Alex and his loved ones.”
