-

AN experienced ocean rower has appeared in court charged with a health and safety offence.

Simon Chalk, 50, faced Bristol Crown Court accused of being the owner or operator liable for the unsafe operation of a UK ship.

The charge, which is alleged to have taken place between July 31 2015 and February 15 2016, relates to the operation of the Toby Wallace ocean rowing vessel.

Chalk, of Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire is yet to enter a plea to the charge, which is being brought by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

Judge Moira Macmillan fixed a trial date for September next year.

Chalk was released on unconditional bail until his trial.
