My nephew told me he had killed, trial is told

THE aunt of a man who admits murder told police he came home and told her he and a pal had killed two people.

And she said that, as a result, she called police.

Maria Boboc said her nephew, Ionut-Valentin Boboc, came to her Bristol home at gone midnight drunk, scared and bloodstained and said he had killed somebody. She told police she had started laughing because she thought he was joking.

She described how, later, she spoke to her nephew’s friend, Iacob-Bebe Chers, and he confirmed he and Boboc had been involved in a double killing.

And she said Chers told her: “Maria, just imagine in your head, like when you ... when you see a horror movie. Just imagine a horror movie. That we ... we cut their throat and took the intestines out.”

It is claimed Chers and Boboc tricked their way into the Easton home of former workmate Denzil McKenzie, who was with visitor Fahad Hossain Pramanik. Over the course of three hours the Crown says the defendants brutally stabbed both men and arranged their dead bodies in a scene of horror in Mr McKenzie’s sitting room.

Mr McKenzie had been stabbed 23 times, Mr Pramanik three, and it is claimed that after he was dead Mr Pramanik was disembowelled.

Boboc, 22, of Abingdon Road, Hillfields, has pleaded guilty to murdering Mr McKenzie but denies murdering Mr Pramanik in September last year. Chers, 46, of Whitefield Road, Hillfields, denies both murder charges. They are on trial at Bristol Crown Court.

In a police interview on the evening after the alleged murders, Maria said Boboc had claimed to his girlfriend on a video call that he had done something “foolish”. She said Boboc, who had a bite mark on his hand, then told her he had just killed someone and she told him she didn’t believe him.

She also said Boboc had a bag of brass-looking items which he had claimed he had taken from the house of the person he said he killed. She said Chers was a friend of Boboc’s and Boboc said Chers had also killed someone.

Later in the morning, Boboc said the murder claim was true, she rang Chers and Chers told her there was a fight and a man had jumped on Boboc.

She said at that point she decided to call police, and that Boboc and Chers got rid of clothes they had worn by disposing of them in a park.

Maria confirmed she came to understand two people had been killed, and that Boboc and Chers had killed one each. She said Boboc claimed the man he killed had wanted to sexually abuse him, and after the killings Boboc and Chers cleaned the scene.

In another police interview from 11.22pm on November 17 last year, Maria confirmed to police she called police on September 12, the morning after the killings. She said she came downstairs and her nephew Boboc came down and he was shaking and agitated.

About 10 minutes later, Chers arrived and Chers confirmed it was true that the killings had happened. Chers told her he and Boboc had gone to a friend’s place to drink beer, Boboc had gone upstairs with a man and there was a bang. Chers had claimed he and Boboc then fought two men and killed them.

The case continues.
