Barbarians grab late win

-

BATH RUGBY .................... 30 BARBARIANS ................... 31

BATH Rugby and the Barbarians played hard in yesterday’s friendly right up to the final whistle in front of a noisy crowd at The Rec.

It was the invitational side’s first visit to Bath in the professional era, and Scott Robertson’s players were up for the challenge of this friendly - organised to fill a week when the hosts were meant to have been playing the now defunct Worcester Warriors.

The visitors included some past Bath favourites, Matt Banahan and Elliott Stooke.

Both fielding 24-man teams, the stand-out performances came from Bath’s Tom de Glanville who scored a beautiful try off the boot of Matt Gallagher and the Barbarians back line, with Levi Aumua and AJ Lam scoring two tries each.

The match was physical, fast and full of tries. But it was the boot of Damian McKenzie that won it for the Barbarians with a drop goal as the clock sat in the red.

De Glanville made his return to the starting XV after suffering a hamstring injury. The fullback proved he was back to full fitness and put in a sterling performance.
