Bath City star Alex on ‘long road to recovery’

-

BATH City footballer Alex Fletcher has praised the “wonderful staff and nurses” and thanked the public for their “kindness and messages of goodwill”, as he moves off the intensive care unit and continues recovery on the neurosurgery ward.

The striker was taken to hospital after colliding with concrete advertising boards during Bath City’s game with Dulwich Hamlet at Twerton Park on November 8.

Alex underwent emergency neurosurgery in order to stabilise his condition and, until now, had remained in intensive care.

In a statement realeased by Bath

City, Alex thanks those who have contributed to a recent Gofundme campaign set up on November 12 that currently sits just shy of £16,000 – well over its target of £500. The campaign was set up to provide support for Alex getting back to “doing what he loves”, as well as family and friends who may have incurred personal costs throughout his recovery.

The full statement says: “Thank you all so much for your kindness, generosity and messages of goodwill that you have sent to me through what has been the most challenging period of my life.

“I am now off the intensive care unit and continuing my recovery on the neurosurgery ward assisted by the wonderful staff and nurses here. I want to say a special thank you to all those who have been looking after me and my family and to everyone who has contributed to the Gofundme page which will help me get back to doing what I love to do as soon as possible.

“It will be a long road to recovery but I will draw on all of the love and support that everyone has shown, every step of the way. Look forward to seeing you all in the future but in the meantime, up the Romans.”
