Chinese race set to be cancelled
CHINA’S return to the Formula One schedule will not take place next year due to the country’s Covid policies.
The country has not staged a grand prix since 2019, but was due to return for the fourth race in 2023 on April 16.
China’s zero-Covid policy has led F1 to conclude that the race cannot go ahead.
The key sticking point is that F1 staff would not be given exemptions from quarantine requirements in the event of suffering a Covid-19 infection.
F1 chairman and chief executive officer Stefano Domenicali has not yet officially called off the race, but the decision is considered an inevitability, while no official comment has been made either.
