Weimann injury scare

-

ANDI Weimann has emerged as a fitness concern for Bristol City after being left out of Austria’s squad for their win over Italy at the weekend.

The Robins forward, 31, was introduced at half-time against Andorra last week – the first of a double-header of matches, but he then failed to feature in Ralf Rangnick’s squad four days later.

According to sources in Austria, Weimann, right, took a knock to the knee against Andorra.

There has been no further information on the severity of the injury, but City manager Nigel Pearson will be keeping his fingers crossed that it will not keep the forward out of the Christmas period.

City return to Sky Bet Championship action at Rotherham on December 10.

The prospect of injury is a notable concern given the amount of football Weimann has played over the last 18 months. He started in every League game last season, then had just ten days off over the summer after playing for his country in their Nations League matches. He subsequently picked up a minor leg injury against France, but returned fit to play for his club. An ACL injury kept Weimann out of action for almost the whole 2020/21 campaign.
