Ban for roundabout ‘donut’driver
A MAN has been banned from driving for 15 months after he was filmed doing “donuts” the wrong way around a roundabout.
Footage released by Wiltshire Police shows Daniel Bassett, 26, driving at high speeds around a roundabout in Swindon, Wiltshire, on May 7.
In the video his car is seen skidding around the roundabout, which thankfully appears to be deserted, while spewing smoke from its tyres in front of stunned pedestrians.
At one point the person filming is heard muttering that the motorist is going to ruin his vehicle’s tyres.
Bassett was banned from driving for 15 months, will have to take an extended driving test and must carry out 200 hours of unpaid community service work thanks to the stunt.
He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after police labelled his actions a “danger to the public”.
Reflecting on the sentence, Wiltshire Police Assistant Chief
Constable Deb Smith said: “We welcome the sentence handed down to Bassett, his actions represented severely reckless behaviour and clear danger to those present and the wider public.
“Op Staysail remains focused on relentlessly pursuing those who are responsible for creating extremely dangerous situations on our roads whilst participating in disruptive car meets.
“We will continue to seek the strongest possible sanctions in such cases.”
