Fan thrown out of ground after alleged homophobic comment

-

A HEREFORD FC supporter was ejected from Edgar Street on Saturday after allegedly making a homophobic comment towards an opposing player.

During the closing stages of the Bulls’ National League North game against Darlington, referee Liam Corbett paused the game to speak to both managers before stewards removed a fan from the ground.

Hereford later released a statement, confirming that a supporter had made an alleged homophobic comment towards a Darlington player.

“We have immediately launched a full investigation and will work alongside West Mercia Police and Darlington FC to establish what happened, and we are therefore appealing for witnesses to come forward with information of today’s incident,” it reads.

“Hereford FC will not tolerate any form of homophobic abuse and anyone found guilty of using such language will be banned from Edgar Street.”

Hereford manager Josh Gowling said: “I think there was a little comment towards the players and he (the ref ) was just making us aware. I think the stewards went over there and had a conversation. I think they threw the person out, whoever it was, and obviously we won’t tolerate that at this football club.”
