I would never dive – match-winner Matt

-

YEOVIL’S Matt Worthington had a mixed afternoon as he scored the winning goal in the Glovers’ 1-0 home win over FC Halifax but was later shown the red card.

Worthington, right, netted from the penalty spot late in the first half, but was shown his second yellow card 15 minutes from time, leaving his teammates to hang on for the three points.

Both sides got off to a slow start at Huish Park before Owen Bevan was brought down in the area and the referee pointed to the spot.

Worthington did not waste the opportunity as he sent his strike past Halifax goalkeeper Sam Johnson to put his side ahead on 44 minutes.

The Shaymen looked brighter at the start of the second half, but the hosts were able to fend off a sustained period of pressure in six minutes of stoppage-time to hold on for the win.

Afterwards, Worthington took to social media, saying: “I’m buzzing with the result and the goal, and thank the lads for digging in and getting three points, but it’s very disappointed being accused of diving – that’s not me as a person and something I would never do. “

Glovers teammate Josh Staunton added: “Huge three points. Not the performance we want in the long run, but for now three points are all that matter.”

■ Gloucester City snapped their four-match losing run with a hardearned 1-0 win at Kidderminster in the National League North.

Matt McClure scored the only goal of the game, converting from close range early in the second half.

City might have had a second goal late on, but Dom McHale’s effort struck the post.

Elsewhere in the National North, Hereford went down 2-1 at home to high-flying Darlington.

Jack Evans gave the Bulls an 11th-minute lead, but Ben Liddle equalised on the stroke of half-time and Jack Lambert got the winner eight minutes after the break.

In the National League South, Taunton took a point from a 1-1 draw away to Hemel Hempstead.

Nick Grimes put the Somerset side in front, but Josh Castiglione levelled for the hosts.

Just down the road, Bath City were beaten 3-0 at St Albans. Shaun Jeffers scored twice with Mitchell Weiss adding the third.

– with all but one of the goals coming after the half-time interval.

Harry Williams gave Supermarine the lead and later levelled at 2-2 after Jerry Wiltshire and Cole Brown had hit back. Stan Flaherty and Moses Emmanuel then put Hayes clear, Will Tunnicliff narrowed the deficit, but Reece Cole finally settled matters at the death.

In Division One Central, Jay Simpson and Jake Lee scored in Cirencester’s 2-0 win over Harlow, while Highworth had Sol Pryce and Felipe Barcelos on target in a 2-2 draw with Ware.

In Division One South, Frome’s promotion bid took a knock at Bashley as Sam Davidson scored in a 1-0 win for the hosts, but Gary Higdon’s goal was enough for Westbury to triumph at Slimbridge by the same margin.

Melksham and Cinderford drew 1-1, while Bristol Manor Farm went down 3-2 at Wimborne, who won it in the 97th minute.
